What is the IB Diploma Programme?

The IB Diploma Programme is a two-year educational programme for students aged 16–19, delivered at VIII PALO in years 3 and 4 of secondary school after the two-year preDP stage. It covers six chosen subjects and three core elements: Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS.

Is VIII PALO an authorised IB World School?

Yes. VIII Private Academic Secondary School in Kraków was authorised by the International Baccalaureate in January 2011 and operates as IB World School no. 006265.

Which classes are open for admission?

The school admits students to preDP 1 and preDP 2 (years 1 and 2 of secondary school) and directly to DP1, the first year of the IB Diploma Programme in year 3.

What grade average is required for preDP admission?

A grade average of at least 4.5 at the end of year 7 or year 8 is required, excluding music, art, design and technology, physical education and religion or ethics, together with a conduct grade of at least “good”.

How many points can a student score in the IB DP?

Each of the six subjects is graded 1–7, giving up to 42 points. Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay add up to 3 more, so the maximum is 45 points. At least 24 points are needed for the diploma.

Is the IB diploma recognised in Poland?

Yes. In Poland the IB diploma is recognised by law as a document confirming secondary education and allows students to apply to Polish universities. Each university sets its own conversion rules.

Get to know the IB Diploma Programme

Programme structure

Each student chooses six subjects — three at standard level and three at higher level. They are complemented by three compulsory core elements: Theory of Knowledge, the independent Extended Essay research project and the CAS programme.

IB learner skills

The programme develops the ability to plan work, analyse information and draw independent conclusions. Students also improve their research skills, communication, teamwork and their capacity to reflect on their own development.

CAS

CAS combines pursuing interests, physical activity and service to others. Students take their own initiatives and run projects that give them experience far beyond traditional lessons.
