Your path to the IB diploma at VIII PALO

IB World School 006265 seal

01 — Four years

From year one to the IB diploma

At VIII PALO preparation for the international baccalaureate starts in the first year of secondary school. Students gradually build the language, academic and project skills they will need in the IB Diploma Programme delivered in years 3 and 4.

01

preDP 1 — the first step towards the IB

In the first year of the international section students follow the Polish secondary school curriculum while gradually preparing to work in a bilingual, international environment. We put particular emphasis on English, on communication and on first experiences with the working methods typical of the IB programme.

Students benefit from, among other things:

02

preDP 2 — preparing to choose a path in the DP

In the second year students continue to develop the skills needed in the DP, in particular: working with sources, academic writing, argumentation, debate and planning long-term projects.

At this stage we focus on:

03

DP1 and DP2 — the full IB Diploma Programme

In years 3 and 4 students follow the IB Diploma Programme. It covers six subjects chosen by the student, Theory of Knowledge, CAS and the Extended Essay research project. It requires consistency, independence and good organisation, but gives students a great deal of freedom in building their own educational profile.

VIII PALO students benefit from:

02 — IB learner skills

Along the IB path students develop, among others

01

Independence and organisation

They learn to plan long-term assignments, projects, essays and exam preparation.

02

Critical thinking

They analyse sources, compare perspectives and learn to draw their own conclusions.

03

Research skills

They prepare projects, written assignments, laboratory experiments and the Extended Essay.

04

Responsibility and reflection

They learn to assess their own progress, accept feedback and plan their further development consciously.

05

Teamwork and communication

They work in teams and take part in projects, conferences, competitions and community activities.

03 — International Baccalaureate

An alternative educational path to the Polish secondary curriculum

The IB DP is an alternative educational path to the Polish secondary school curriculum. It allows students to choose subjects more consciously and to develop their own interests, with an emphasis not only on knowledge but also on critical thinking, independence, argumentation, research work and reflection on the learning process.

At VIII PALO we offer a wide choice of subjects, including ones that are less common in the Polish education system, such as:

Psychology Business Management Economics Computer Science Sports, Exercise and Health Science Theory of Knowledge CAS Extended Essay

04 — Admissions and enrolment

We admit students to preDP 1, preDP 2 and DP1

VIII PALO admits students to the first and second preDP year, which prepares them for the IB Diploma Programme, and to the third year DP1, i.e. directly to the first year of the IB DP.

Students who have completed the first and second year of secondary school or an equivalent stage of education may apply to the third year DP1. We encourage everyone interested to read the current admissions rules and the requirements for their chosen path.
